Pet Insurance
If you have pet insurance then we advise you to check your policy to see if behaviour work is covered before booking an appointment and if so, you may be able to claim back most fees and some associated costs. Please call and ask for expert advice from Ben Mckechnie.
Please note that should your pet insurance company decide not to cover your invoice from CBT Referrals you will be solely responsible for making the payment.
Effective Behaviour Rehabilitation
Behaviour consultations are only delivered as a package to ensure we are able to support clients over several weeks and months. Given the complexities of most established behaviour problems we do not promote a 'quick fix' as often portrayed by inappropriate media. Setting realistic objectives and timescales is an essential part of a professional and supportive service and leads to effective behaviour rehabilitation.
'A vital component of pet behaviour counselling is the bond of trust between client and behaviourist. In our experience, we know that simply talking about your pet's problems and sharing negative emotions with somebody you trust can help relieve emotional and physical distress'
Dean Hart, MSc FMCFBA Senior Practitioner
This is important........
"We know that some insurance companies like to 'dangle a bone' and persuade you to join them, but please check exactly what you are covered for. Not every policy is the same, some policies cover behavioral consultations and some don't. Most DO NOT COVER previous conditions. If you have mentioned your pet's behaviour to your vet and this is noted on your veterinary record, then this is an important date insurance companies will consider. Also, beware, that taking out a new policy after this veterinary note and not mentioning this when you sign up for insurance cover can also void your claim. "

Additional Rehabilitation Sessions for
Standard Behavioural Package
£90 an hour.
For clients that have initially opted for the Standard Behavioural Package they are able to book additional practical rehabilitation sessions based on their individual needs following the behaviourists report. Sessions typically last around an hour and often include valuable training to help owners cope with their pet's behavioural problems. These sessions are particularly valuable for those new to rehabilitation training.
Specialist Behavioural
Dog Grooming
£105 an hour. Fees cover the behaviourist and a specialist dog groomer.
As behavioural sessions, this grooming process can often be claimed through pet insurance policies - always worth checking first.
Many dogs have unfortunately experienced negative handling during the grooming process so develop reactive behaviours, often designed to protect themselves through aggression or learned helplessness (shutting down). Some dogs have never been able to cope with grooming from the beginning, perhaps a rescue or nervous dog. CBT Referrals works closely with a specialist dog groomer to provide a caring and supportive behavioural service during the dog grooming process. This includes a one hour behavioural consultation, initial handouts, practical grooming input with suggestions on appropriate equipment to use at home.

They are non competitive and provide opportunity for continuing professional development (CPD).
